On The Road- NY to Istanbul

My last two weeks have been spent exploring and roaming NY and Istanbul, where I was sussing out the finest new hotels and restaurants in the Big Apple and exploring the mosques and markets in Istanbul. I’ll share my discoveries here and tell you that the time to visit Istanbul is now – truly the consummate journey location; recent politics aside, it is safe and welcoming to all travelers, a historic city of unparalleled beauty and cultural richness.
FROM NY – The Mark Hotel, The Surrey and in SoHo, the London based Crosby Street Hotel. Jean Georges new restaurant, Daniel Boulud (still!), Crosby Street Hotel Drawing Room and private cinema exclusively for guests. Theatre- too late to see Red, but it deserved the six Tony awards, riveting performance!
FROM ISTANBUL – The Four Seasons, Park Hyatt Hotel, Çırağan Palace Kempinski; enticing shops in the Grand Bazaar, exotic flavors of the spice market, Ottoman Cuisine at Asitane Restaurant, beautiful mosques, all found near the amazingly beautiful, timeless Bosphorus that runs between Asia and Europe
A few enticing photos to begin the journey.

Ny Dining – Can it get better each night?

The Restaurant at The Mark Hotel – Jean Georges Vongerichten’s newest addition to his restaurant empire is surprisingly very reasonable for NY- I decided to try small bites, several. Tuna tartar sitting on a tangy lemon caper dressing was light and fresh- not as fabulous as I expected it might be. NEXT PLEASE! Pureed spring pea soup dramatically poured from a small pitcher into a fluffy cloud of Parmesan foam…now that was over the top. MORE PLEASE! Summer follows spring as did my meal selections: perfectly shaped squares of luscious red and yellow watermelon, floating on a shimmer of fruity olive oil, topped with crumbled goat cheese and freshly ground pepper- summer fruit in a sophisticated grown up salad-PERFECT!
