Follow the road past sunny vineyards punctuated by cypress trees and soaring pines and flourishing wine cellars and suddenly a magnificent architectural jewel appears on the horizon, an Italian style chateau with grandeur to match the generations of Provençal dynasties who once lived there.

Heavy iron gates open wide onto the 22-hectare gardens leading past an elegant cour d’honneur and French gardens blessed with the serene sound of trickling fountains. At the end of the grand driveway is the Chateau, a magnificent 17th century chateau just 20 minutes from Aix-en-Provence. Comfort and convenience at your fingertips!

At the heart of a 300-hectare vineyard, the Chateau has something on offer for all members of the family, from extensive outdoor spaces perfect for burning off some of the kiddo’s energy, to a tennis court, boules court and the opportunity to take private a wine tour around the estate or enjoy a spot of truffle hunting.

Nearby Aix-en-Provence and its surroundings, famous for its outdoor markets and fetching pedestrian paths, as well as its cultivated, bon vivant residents. Nowhere else in France is l’art de vivre.

History here is the drama of daily life, a pleasurable shopping trip is combined with noble heritage, a drink on a sunny terrace with beautiful architecture and a stroll around town evoking baroque splendor. Aix is an area of culture, chic shopping, street markets, rich in small cafes and restaurants. There is a buzz but not really any sense of hurry. You can walk everywhere.

The old town, on the north side of Cours Mirabeau is full of shops, museums, and historical sites and buildings, as well as three markets. There is the daily market in Place Richelme, and a flower market in Place d’Hotel de Ville on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Amid the imposing 17th century mansions (called ‘hôtels particuliers’ in French but not hotels), some minor museums of interest for their architecture if nothing else: the natural history museum (Museum d’Histoire Naturelle) in rue Espariat, the tapestry museum (Musee des Tapisseries) and the museum of old Aix.

Cézanne’s colors surround you: more than just an experience, you’ll feel like you’re meeting the painter amid the places and landscapes which marked the life, the eye and the work of the father of modern painting.
