Rising in the Peruvian Andes, the Amazon River winds its way east over the northern part of South America until reaching the Atlantic Ocean. It carries into the Atlantic a higher volume of water than the earth’s top-10 largest rivers flowing into the ocean combined. The Amazon Basin includes a diversity of traditional inhabitants, people who have lived in the rainforest for thousands of years and whose lifestyles and customs are well adapted to this environment.

Mammals: There is nowhere else in the world where pink river dolphins are found swimming freely in the Amazon’s waters. The exotic manatee, often called the “river elephant”, swims alongside them. On land, curious looking animals like the sloth and the capybara are a sight, and opportunity, that shouldn’t be missed. In the air, the long-nosed bat flies high, and in the trees hide the squirrel monkeys and the world’s smallest monkey; the pygmy marmoset.

Insects Reptiles & Amphibians: A safe haven for exotic reptiles. The rainbow boa, wrapped calmly around trees, and huge iguanas, roaming near by. In between leaves, if one looks carefully, hides the famous stick insect.

Resting on the river banks, guests could be lucky enough to spot the endangered black caiman, or the more common white caiman. The Amazon’s waters are the ideal home for the misunderstood piranhas, as well as the gigantic 200kg paiches. With our catch and release policy, fishing in the creeks and lagoons is an incredible opportunity for all guests.

Until we plan an escape for you and your family, enjoy the restful symphony. A symphony you have never heard before. Wind, water, weather and animals come together to create unique sounds and sensations for Delfin guests. As a reserve mostly untouched by humans, the Pacaya Samiria is the perfect stage. In the Rainforest’s loud, and yet relaxing sounds, visitors will find nature in its purest form and greatness.

Birds: Home to over a thousand bird species, the Amazon Rainforest is a dream came true for bird watchers. The huge Jabiru, that can measure up to 150 centimeters, the colorful blue and yellow Macaw, the prehistoric looking Hoatzin and the locally known “Tuki Tuki” are some of the incredible species that can be found all around the rainforest.

The Amazon

The Pacaya Samiria Natural Reserve remains as one of the few natural habitats where unimaginable birds fly unbothered by human intervention. Their loud and exotic cries can be heard in every corner of the rainforest, their echoes bouncing off the thick vegetation.

At night, the Amazon comes alive with a storm of unimaginable sounds that cannot be heard before the sun goes down. Animals hidden during the day will amaze our guests with their curious callings. Even more, the calm river and ruffling leaves are deeply enjoyed in the dim lighting.

The crickets, river, birds and fluttering leaves heard on tape cannot compare to being right in the center of the action; listening and feeling every sound and gush of wind. Discover the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of becoming a part of the Amazon Rainforest.

Increase the volume and imagine cruising the Amazon on Delfin.
